Stone paving assisted us with design of our patio project and executed very well. They completed the project on time and on budget.

On the southern edge of Shady Banks is the Bill Keith Preserve Park. It's a peaceful, shady nature preserve along the banks of the New River. It features mulched paths and wooden board walks with seating areas among the trees. One can observe blue crabs, fish, and all sorts of water birds, as well as passing boaters who frequently greet you. It's a great place to sit and sketch nature, stroll, picnic, or meditate. There are periodic volunteer clean up events in case any teens or scout troops need community service hours

A City of Fort Lauderdale park in the heart of Shady Banks. Hortt Park has taken over the entire former school site. As of 2015, it has a beautiful new community center, playground, sand volleyball, soccer field, softball field, two half court basketball, a full tennis court, exercise path with outdoor gym equipment. Many neighborhood activities occur there throughout the year, such as the semi-annual neighborhood yard sales, Christmas hayride and potluck dinner, Easter egg hunts, movies in the park, and more.

After being vacant for more than a decade, that drug lord house has been resold a number of times and now torn down to be replaced by present owner.
  • Former site of "Ocean World", Mark Elliott (guest) wrote 7 years ago:
How cool it is to find this site! My name is Mark Elliott and I worked there before joining the military in 1974. I was a diver and alligator wrestler in training under Tommy Taylor. I remember Mr, Beckwith, Ken Engles and Russ Rector (whom we called rectum:) and others working there. I visited those condos you mention several times. I lived about 5 miles North and rode my bike every morning. I often was the first there and opened the place up. I swapped duties one week with Mel Fishers son (The Atocha treasure guy) and he drowned in week or so after that in a cave diving accident. Before Ocean World I was a diver at the Aquatarium in St. Pete (also closed) Small world. I was just surfing the net and happened to google it.

I went there twice. But never returned to the area. Sad to find out Ocean World closed. I was there in the 90s. I was a youngster. We were in Fort Lauderdale those years. Often went to Tampa/ Clearwater and Saw Busch Gardens or to Miami. Last trip to Florida I stayed in Orlando. I am now over 30.

My father livedin the condominiums that were directly across the canal from Ocean World. Mr. Beckwith the owner also lives there and so did Ken engelss the head trainer. Dad got Mr Beckwith to give my brother and I in life time passes so needless to say we would be there all day every day whenever we were visiting down there. The coolest thing was that we would get to do all the tricks with the dolphins and the sea lions when the crowds would move from station to station we would stay behind and get to do them all. a very cool place. Eventually we built a small raft in the undeveloped land next to the condos I think they were called the caravel. So that we wouldn't have to walk all the way down to the end of the street and then back down 17th Street causeway to get there.people got angry at us so we had to pull it off. pretty cool and definitely memorable experiences for an 8 and 6 year old!

I went there every Easter Break when i was a kid visiting my grandparents. They lived around the corner in the Cliff Lakes Villas where my parents live today. Everytime i drive by the location with my kids i tell them how great it was to feed the dolphins!!
  • Kenbar Apartments, neighbor (guest) wrote 10 years ago:
Sounds like unit #124. If so, the oven vent to the roof was closed off when they remodeled the kitchen, so enabling the fan just means that steam will be blown back into your face. The dishwasher was added at the same time - if you stop using it, the standing water issue should go away.
  • Kenbar Apartments, Elizabeth (guest) wrote 10 years ago:
good luck getting anything fixed in your apartment. lived here for over a month now with my fiancé and called, left issues on answering machine with them but they could never seem to return MY call to MY number, even though I am clearly living in the apartment. guessing that is because my name is not on the lease. they would occasionally try to call him back. good thing is that it is very quiet and safe here but GOOD LUCK getting anything fixed, the handle to our bathroom window is and has been broken, the fan on the stove doesn't work, the filters on the a/c units were dirty when we moved in, we dealt with out clogged tub so we didn't have to call and deal with management and the newest issue is the fact that we have standing water in the kitchen sink and dishwasher. Good luck, people!!!

  • American Nails Spa & Lounge, Cheryl Massey wrote 10 years ago:
American Nails, Spa & Lounge: I went yesterday, 4/12/14, for the first time since they opened a few month's ago. I got the WORST pedicure/manicure I have ever had in my life. When I got home and checked out the pedicure, it looked like I did it myself and certainly unprofessional. ALL of the nails were crooked/slanted; the paint job was horrendous. On my manicure, my nail had a crack on the top in the nail which was darker then the rest of the nail which was never filed down or snipped down to remove it. It was absolutely horrible. I should have paid more attention while I was having it done. I do not recall her name, but it was a small vietnamese woman, 5 months pregnant (she said). Anyways, I will never return and continue going back to my regular spot, Queen Nails. My only reason for going to this salon is that it is literally 3 blocks from my house and I wanted to see if it would work for me. Queen Nails is just a tad further and the mani-pedi is night and day in comparison. Anyways, my 2 cents for now.

Project 213 on Fort Lauderdale beach basically sells over priced items you can buy at the cvs a few feet away. The owner is rude, racist, and arrogant.

Located along the banks of the New River, and bisected by the Tarpon River, our neighborhood boasts many riverside parks. We are within walking distance to the nightlife of Fort Lauderdale. Its a cool place to live.
